ABOUT

Who is Girl With a Satchel?

Girl With a Satchel is the creation of freelance journalist Erica Bartle, who left her glossy magazine career behind after finding God and a husband, but not before establishing this here blog – her collection of musings on media and matters of the feminine kind.

Since 2007, Girl With a Satchel has covered the magazine industry, body image and matters of women's interest, more recently delving into essays revolving around theological, economic and culture matters. We are determined to build bridges, not tear them down.

Girl With a Satchel practises a brand of feminism, dubbed 'Satchelism', that embraces the teachings of Christ and the right to equality for all human beings. We are passionate about seeing women and girls break free from oppressive forces in the world so they are able to live their lives with an eternal purpose.

To this end, Girl With a Satchel aims to sort through the ephemeral clutter of "pop culture, magazines and pretty things" that define the Zeitgeist to give readers a point of view shaped more by Christian values than the persuasions of celebrity, gossip, consumerism and glossy perfectionism.

Insightful but not exclusionary, Girl With a Satchel is the girl who never quite fit into any school group and continues to defy expectation as she navigates her way through this thing they call life grounded in the knowledge that all she really needs in her satchel is a Bible.
